Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Slack.
Account Manager
Communication was really awful throughout the entire process. It took a whole month to even set up the initial phone screen because the recruiter no-showed and didn't respond for days. Then, getting the second stage interview scheduled took forever. I had to give my availability three times over 1.5 months, and still, there was hardly any response. The team kept needing nudges to move things along and update candidates. After six weeks of being strung along, I followed up one last time since they promised someone would contact me about the second interview, only to be told the role was already filled. A really disappointing experience.
- Can you describe your experience with renewals?
Account Manager
First, there was a phone screen with a recruiter to check if I was a good fit, my motivation, and why I wanted to work at Slack. It was pretty straightforward. The second interview was a 30-minute phone call with the team lead. It was a really easy, open chat where we both asked questions. He actually had to end it early for another meeting. Then, I had a case study with three customer query scenarios, like a 'writing exercise.' I got rejected after sending in my answers. I felt pretty good about it, but I'm not sure why I didn't get through, especially since I thought I connected well with the lead.
- What makes you want to join Slack?
Account Manager
There was a written sales exercise, a phone call, and then a video interview. It's a fantastic company with amazing tech and a vision to define a market, and I'd really like to work there. However, the job posting wasn't quite what they're actually hiring for, which is fine, but just not my specific area.
