First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Skyward Specialty Insurance.
Underwriter
The interview went well. I felt like the hiring manager really wanted to hire me, which was great. Then I had a second interview with someone I wouldn't actually work with in that department, and that one was way harder.
- Can you describe your previous experience?
Technical Director
I interviewed with the VP who said I'd get an offer but needed to interview others. Then I met with his SVP and an underwriting leader. They even mentioned a gift bag and CEO call on day one after getting my offer. But after four interviews, the HR recruiter emailed to say I didn't get the job and they reposted it. I regret passing up other chances based on their promise of an offer. It seems Skyward has issues because they kept interviewing candidates without hiring anyone. Though I was bummed, it's good I didn't end up there.
- What's your favorite college football team?
Legal Assistant
I got a recruiter call in late August 2017 where she asked basic questions about my experience and told me about the job. Then I had an in-person interview. I met with Legal, and it started off fine with basic interview questions. Then I was asked what my most recent manager would say about me that would need improvement. I didn't really have an answer and joked that it would be to be on time. In my previous job, I was occasionally 10-15 minutes late, but I always stayed late to finish my work. I was a good employee and allowed this flexibility; my tardiness was never an issue and I never got negative feedback about it. Apparently, she didn't like that. She started telling me about meetings I might have to attend early in the morning and about when the Board is in town. They also told me about office rules, like no cups without lids and that popcorn is banned. She also mentioned she wouldn't ask me about my weekend or engage in personal chats, which I actually liked because coworkers can sometimes pry too much. She also stated she wouldn't praise my work.
- What area would your previous manager say you need to improve on?
Claims Specialist
I had an initial conversation with a recruiter. They shared some background about the company and then repeatedly asked me if I had any questions for them regarding the company's direction. It felt a bit odd to be asked so many times if I had questions so early on, especially since the recruiter didn't seem to have in-depth technical knowledge about the specific role.
- Do you have any questions about where the company is heading?
