Behavioral Technical

They had me fill out a questionnaire before the virtual interview. It seemed like they needed someone technical because the hiring manager was struggling. Their code quality is apparently a mess. The first part of the interview was good, focusing on leadership and communication. But then it got technical, and the questions didn't really seem relevant to managing an engineering team; it felt like they just Googled questions right before. Some questions were also unclear. I think they should have asked specific questions about SkyTouch's real-world issues and how I'd fix them, or asked more about my resume projects. The technical part was poorly structured and not well thought out. They barely looked at my resume or the questionnaire answers, asking some questions verbatim again. The next interview was supposed to be in-person, where I would architect solutions, which is my strength, but I never got to do it. It was strange because I would have been managing a huge number of contractors, which made me think it's not a well-run technical org. Contractors don't have a vested interest like FTEs. They seemed really focused on the need for code reviews, which managers shouldn't have to do if they hire right and have good processes. FTEs are owners who take pride in their work. I could have helped change things, but oh well, moving on.

First interview was about my previous company and internships, and my react projects. They also asked about basic react concepts like hooks, states, state management, and routing, along with react-redux and RTK. The second part was a practical assessment where I was given a JSON database and had to create a basic progress bar using Redux Toolkit for state management.
