First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Skyline Construction.
Project Engineer
First, there was a screening call with a Project Executive. If that went well, there were 2 more interview rounds, usually in person. The first interviewer was an APM, and the second was a PM. It got easier and turned into a conversation.
- Can you describe your responsibilities in your previous position?
Project Manager
I first chatted with Skyline's recruiter on the phone for an initial screening. Then, a couple days later, I had a phone chat with one of their project managers. To wrap things up, I did an in-person interview with four people, including the VP.
- Tell me about MEP subcontractors you have experience with.
AP Specialist
I heard about this job from an accounting staffing agency I was using. About two days after they put me up for it, I got called in to meet with the Controller and the Senior Staff Accountant. The whole thing took about 25 minutes, and they had other people interviewing right before and after me. It was pretty standard, nothing too weird. They asked me questions for about 10 minutes, then let me ask them stuff. They mentioned a possible second interview with the person currently doing the AP Specialist job. My recruiter let me know about 15 minutes after I left that I seemed to have done well and might move on. Two days later, my recruiter called and told me I got an offer.
- Can you start by telling me a little about yourself?
- Could you share some of the challenges you've encountered in your current role?
Project Coordinator
I sent in my resume and then had a preliminary phone call with an HR assistant. It was a very cold conversation, and I wasn't sure if I'd hear back. A few days later, the same person called me for a screening, and then again to schedule an interview. The tone was slightly warmer, but not much. On the interview day, I got there about 15 minutes early. The same person I'd spoken with on the phone eventually came to greet me, with no warmth at all. About 35 minutes after that, which was 20 minutes past my scheduled interview time, I was finally called into a room. However, only half of the people I was told I'd meet with were there. There was no apology for the delay and no explanation for the missing people. I felt the interview itself went okay, but not great. None of the interviewers offered me their business card, and I forgot to ask because I was so thrown off by the whole process. I followed up at least 3 times with the HR assistant I initially spoke with (by phone and email), but I got zero response. I understand if I'm not the right fit, but I found everyone I interacted with to be very unprofessional. In my extensive career, I've had a few rejections, but I've never had a company completely ignore my follow-up efforts after an interview.
- Can you share a challenge you encountered and describe how you handled it?
