So, for Skuid, their application process is basically the screening interview. When you apply, you have to answer questions like you're in an interview, showing you get the role and can do it. They also ask for your salary expectations. If they like your application, you then do an "aptitude" test and a personality test. If they're still into you, they'll let you book an interview. I got an invite, and I figured I was a good fit since they had all my info. But then, 5 minutes before, the recruiter emailed to cancel, saying the hiring manager closed the position. I spent hours on the application and prepping for an interview for a job they weren't even sure they'd fill. They could have at least interviewed me and considered me for other roles if they were unsure, showing some respect. It's a huge red flag how they handled this.

Interviewing can be pretty daunting, showing up to a new place and being asked lots of questions that don't have easy answers. The good news is that most companies have a similar interview format. Typically, you meet with a hiring manager and maybe some team members, dress nicely, talk about your past experience, systems you've used, your strengths and weaknesses, and then wait to hear back. Some companies, like Skuid, try to shake things up to figure out if you're a good fit. They ask questions beyond the standard ones. My interview process at Skuid involved meeting with almost every department: HR, Internal Systems, Professional Services, Customer Success Manager, Director of Sales, Accounting, and Marketing. I had at least 6, maybe 7 separate interviews, with 1-3 Skuid employees in each. Some questions were job-specific, but others were about unusual topics like servant leadership. These questions are insightful and sometimes hard to answer, especially compared to talking about years of experience or past projects. They really focus on company values, weighing them equally with experience and job requirements. The interviewers were engaging and relaxed, creating a family-like atmosphere where people seemed to genuinely like each other. I left each interview wanting to work there more. The process wasn't rushed, and I always felt valued. HR did a good job setting up the interviews with all the necessary details. The whole process takes a long time because of their thorough vetting, so it's not for the faint of heart.

I got my resume into Skuid via a contact who already worked there. After checking out the website and their messaging, I wrote my cover letter and resume. HR got back to me super fast after I sent those in. That same night, the CEO reached out to say they were interested in interviewing me. I met with the CEO and an HR person at the Skuid office. They showed me around and introduced me to some people I already knew. The interview was pretty long. They kicked things off by asking me "Why do you want to work for Skuid? What do you think you can offer us?" and then it just kept going. They really wanted to know what I wanted to do and if my goals fit with the company's. They want people who get their goals and want to push them forward. That said, having different goals and interests is cool. They just want you to use your skills and passions to the max. I wasn't sure how I did when it wrapped up, but I knew they weren't just looking for a typical office worker. They seemed genuinely interested in who I am and how my unique experience and personality could add to the team. In the end, they cared about how they could help me achieve my goals, not just how I could help them. The CEO called that same night with an offer.

I applied through Skuid's website, which was super easy. A few days later, a hiring manager reached out and set up an interview for the next week. Since I was in Philadelphia, Skuid was really flexible and let me do the interview via GoToMeeting. The first chat was just with the Hiring Manager, and it was pretty chill. He was curious about my personal and career goals and how they aligned with what Skuid looks for in employees. The following week, I had a second round with two hiring managers and someone from HR. They were again super interested in my career aspirations and made sure to clearly explain Skuid's culture and company objectives. They were really upfront about everything: salary, daily tasks, benefits, etc. I had the interview on a Friday and was told I'd hear back early the next week. The hiring manager called me back less than an hour later with a job offer. Overall, it was a really good experience that felt true to how Skuid operates.
