A few quick Zoom calls to test skills, followed by an assessment. It was tough but fair. The Zoom calls included a mix of scenarios, live demonstrations of sourcing abilities, and resume-related questions. The entire process only took a few days.

I had an initial chat with a recruiter. They mentioned the job would start as a remote 6-month contract, with a chance to go full-time later, even though this wasn't in the original job post. The call was super short, only 15 minutes, and basically just to get me ready for a take-home test. So, I didn't get to ask anything about the role, the company, or the team, and they didn't ask me any questions about myself or what I've done. The recruiter was nice, but it felt a bit off, like they weren't upfront. I wish I'd known a bit more before diving into a take-home test that takes hours.

I went through an interview process that started with an external recruiter and the Head of People Ops, which felt promising. However, things got concerning during the assessment phase, as it seemed to potentially violate FLSA guidelines by focusing on tasks that benefited the company more than evaluating my skills. The Head of People Ops was nice and made a good impression. But, meeting the COO was a major letdown. It felt like the company was stuck in 2021, the same year they had a huge employee exodus. The founders don't seem to have strong leadership skills, and they have unrealistic expectations for employees and the kind of candidates they want. The company's language is problematic for employer branding. Their case study, while not super hard, made me question their IP usage policies, especially since they don't even have a Head of Talent. My interaction with the COO really soured my view of the company's work ethic and culture. I decided to pull out of the running because of this. It was disappointing to see the gap between their public DEI statements and what I experienced. Honestly, I'd tell other candidates to think hard about the personal life impact versus the company's potentially toxic work culture before investing time here.
