I had a Zoom meeting with two employees from the company. They asked me about my experience with certain tax skills and my past work. It seemed like a good place to work, very collaborative. The interview was about half an hour.

It was with a manager and two partners for an hour. They asked technical and personal questions. It felt very friendly and relaxed. They do ask you to talk about steps you do for like revenue equity AP but it’s your pick. They asked for a scenario based question too.

The company frequently interacts with my school's Accounting Society. I networked with many professionals during an 'Office Tour'. An Audit manager took an interest in me and continued networking via email. He recommended me for a tax position and referred me to the tax partner. I then communicated with the tax partner via email for a couple of months. Due to tax season, communications became infrequent until after April. I had a 1.5-hour in-person, 1-on-1 interview with the partner, which felt like a conversation. He frequently mentioned favoring my skills and attributes. About a month later, I had my second interview with 2 managers. They seemed to enjoy their work at the company and asked fairly easy behavioral and qualification questions. They seemed concerned about me pursuing a Master's now rather than gaining 3-5 years of experience. Afterward, I interviewed with 2 staff members I would work closely with. I found them to have great personalities and commendable dedication to the company. I enjoyed getting to know them as employees and people who could demonstrate work-life balance. They offered advice on what to expect upon starting. There was a lot of good conversation and laughter during this interview, and I felt I connected best with them. After all the networking and interviews, I anticipated an offer soon. I was shocked to receive a generic HR email stating I didn't get the position.

I got this interview from CSUF and interviewed on campus. It was a 1 to 1 interview with the recruiter. As with any accounting career, most students enter without knowing if they want to do tax or audit and that was my downfall. She asked me which one I would like and I wasn't able to answer specifically so the interview resulted more of a lecture of the difference between the two.

  • Can you tell me about yourself?
  • Do you have a preference for tax or audit?
