First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Sinclair Broadcast Group.
Account Executive
I talked with two managers who were really nice and asked the basic stuff, going over my resume and background. It was pretty easy and informal. Overall there were 3 interviews. The first one was just to get to know each other. The second one was about how we do things and if I had any issues with it. The last one was about the offer, if I could do commission-only, and if I wanted the job. They didn't mention it was commission-only until the last interview, which was a bit of a surprise, but since I'd start with a book of business, not having a base salary was okay.

Account Executive
I was referred to interview by someone who currently works there. I emailed my resume straight to the sales manager and got a reply back really quickly. We set up the interview for the next day, and it was all done via email. The interview felt really personal; they are upfront about all the potential problems with the job and are super honest and straightforward. They hint at the commission structure but don't give exact percentages. Mostly, they want to answer your questions (you should definitely have some good ones ready) so you can keep the conversation going with them. There are multiple interviews with this company, not just one. They aren't hiring right now, but they interviewed me because I was recommended. Their next opening isn't until after the new year, so they told me upfront there was no immediate job to offer.
- What makes you think you'd succeed in this line of work?
Account Executive
I was going through the process to get into the Sinclair U program. This includes interviews with all the local managers and a Skype interview with an HR director from corporate. You also have to take the Caliper personality test and a drug test. The local managers at my TV station kept it pretty laid back - they really wanted to make sure I was a good fit for them and that they were a good fit for me. They were upfront about what the job entails.
- What's your approach when dealing with rejection?
