I had a great technical interview today. First, I explained how TypeScript works under the hood, walking through how the compiler uses the Abstract Syntax Tree for type checking before emitting JavaScript. Then, I tackled a medium LeetCode string problem using a straightforward sliding window approach. It went smoothly!

It started with a quick 15-minute chat with the recruiter about the job and what they're looking for. After that, I had a 45-minute meeting with the engineering director. We mostly talked about my resume and what I've done before. They did most of the talking and it didn't feel like a super intense interview. The next step was a 1-hour panel interview with a principal and a senior software engineer. They really dug into the technical stuff, asking about my skills in Kotlin, OOP, Docker, agile, pair programming, concurrency, Spring, event-driven design, RabbitMQ, and log tracing. I felt pretty good about how that went and thought my skills were a good match. A few days later, the recruiter said they'd need about a week to collect feedback from everyone. I waited over a month and didn't hear back, so I guess they went with other people.

The interview process started with a recruiter call, followed by a conversation with the hiring manager. Then there was an online case study which received positive feedback. I reached out to the recruiter but didn't hear back because they were on vacation. I only got a response three weeks later, saying I wasn't a fit for the role but might be for another team. I then moved to a fourth phase which wasn't initially mentioned. This phase involved a chat with the hiring manager who said they saw potential for growth and career development for me in the opportunity. A week later, I contacted the recruiter again, and they responded the next day with negative feedback that contradicted what the manager had said, as the manager had expressed seeing me in the role. The whole process was very disorganized, causing unnecessary anxiety and a lack of timely communication.

The process included an initial HR screening, followed by an interview with the hiring manager, online tests, two technical case studies, and a final interview with a director. This whole process was quite lengthy, with significant delays between each stage. The case study took several hours, and the interview with the director was unexpected given that I had already been approved by the hiring manager. I was interviewing for other roles at the time, and due to the long waiting period, I accepted another offer that was more appealing and had a less bureaucratic process.
