Technical Coding System Design

For the initial technical interview, I spoke with the Full Stack Developer Lead. He asked a range of questions covering algorithms, data structures, database design, and best practices for web application/API design and deployment. Even though the interview seemed to go really well, with the interviewer even commenting positively on my performance, I was surprisingly rejected after this first round. When I followed up for feedback, the interviewer cited organizational management issues within the company. It seems there was a mismatch, as they were actually seeking a senior developer with over 5 years of experience, despite the job posting initially indicating a junior role requiring only 3 years.

I applied and then HR reached out to set up a phone screen. The experience was really strange, I've never had a phone screen where the interviewer was looking at their messages and commenting on them while I was talking. It's already hard being a job seeker, but not showing respect to the candidate is pretty rude. I'm sure it's a cool company, but the conversation was so weird that I'm glad I didn't get the job.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

First I chatted with Nicole, the Talent and Culture Manager. She was really nice and asked some great questions. Then I talked with Matt Bress, the VP of Sales, and Joe Brown, the sales director. Both talks went for about 1.5 hours and were actually pretty fun. They gave me a solid understanding of the company's values and objectives, which I really connected with. Finally, Joe had me do an exercise where I had to sell him a bottle of mustard.
