First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Simplex Infrastructures.
Graduate Trainee Engineer
simplex came to our college (nit dgp) and was supposed to take a written exam first, but they changed it to a GD round upon arrival. The GD was on simple topics and didn't have any eliminations. Afterwards, there was an interview that was completely technical. For many of us, the interview lasted over an hour and covered all areas of civil engineering. I was asked about engineering drawing, staad, highway, structural engineering (with a focus on BMD, SFD, ILD, Kani's method, slope deflection, etc.), and geotechnical engineering (active/passive pressure, piles, footings). Some friends were asked to write the formula for the moment of resistance. There was no HR round, and results were announced at the end.
- What is ILD?
- Can you explain the difference between Kani's method and moment distribution?
- What is the difference between active and passive pressure?
Manager
After submitting my application, I received a call from the company. The interview was scheduled for seven days later, giving me some time to prepare. I was informed about the areas to focus on and spent about 5 hours daily preparing in detail. The interview had two main parts: (1) A written phase including an IQ test, skill test, background check, and personality test. (2) A one-on-one interview that also included a personality test. I felt I did well because I remained calm and composed. My advice is to embrace challenges during interviews and remember you learn a lot. Prepare thoroughly and don't give up. The people were friendly, the office was great, and the work culture seemed typical for India.
- Suppose you are given the opportunity to make decisions regarding salary cuts or workforce reductions during a recession when the company is struggling to survive, what actions would you take?
- Once hired, would you opt to implement changes immediately, exercise patience before altering anything, or maintain the status quo?
Structural Engineer
When we interview people, it's good to ask about their job knowledge and skills, and also about their past work experiences. We really want to know how they acted in certain work situations. How they acted before often tells us how they'll act in the future. This is super important because how an employee does their job is as big a deal as the job itself. Finding and checking for the key behaviors needed should help an employee do well. Before we ask behavior questions, we think it's best to start with some general intro questions. Here are some ideas.
- What are the steps and tools required to construct an ellipse?
Safety Officer
After filling out the joining form, there were three rounds of interviews. They asked basic details, questions related to the resume, and previous company experience. The rounds were with the Safety Manager (Chief), the HSE Advisor of the company, and HR.
- Can you describe your overall experience?
- What motivates you to join our organization?
- What were your responsibilities in your previous role?
