The whole thing took a few weeks which was a bit long, but I got sick and then there was Christmas, and I was doing a lot of interviews anyway. I also wanted to do an on-site because I'd be relocating, making sure it was the right place with people who'd help me grow. I first saw the posting and applied on Dec 12, 2018. Dori reached out to set up an interview on Dec 14, 2018. My first call was with the CTO, Michael, on Jan 2, 2018. Then I had a technical interview with him on Jan 9, 2018 using coderpad. The onsite was on Jan 25, 2019 where I did a whiteboarding session with Daniel, discussed tech processes and my general knowledge with Conner, and had a culture interview with Yunha. After a follow up call with Yunha on Jan 28, 2019, my references were checked. Finally, I got the offer letter on Feb 4, 2019.

I was contacted by the CTO to start the interview process. First, I had a phone screen with the CTO. Then, I had a technical and cultural onsite interview. This was with the recruiter, two iOS engineers, and the CTO. Finally, I had a behavioral interview with the CEO. My experience with the phone screen and the first onsite was great, everyone was super nice and encouraging. However, the CEO was negative and had a fixed mindset during the final interview, which was disappointing given the company's mission.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

The Lead Recruiter at Simple Habit reached out on LinkedIn. I wasn't actively looking, but the role and company intrigued me, so I did an initial phone screen to learn more. Then, I spoke with the hiring manager about my skills and experience. The next week, I went onsite for interviews with leaders from other departments, including an onsite activity and technical/behavioral questions. The process was clear. After the onsite, I had a final behavioral interview with the founder, Yunha. They gave me feedback before my final onsite, which was helpful and showed me how aligned the team is with the company's values. The whole process was positive, fast, and they kept me updated.

The interview process at Simple Habit was pretty thorough, more than usual, but it was actually enjoyable and not stressful. It started with a screening call, then a take-home assignment that was fairly easy and time-boxed. After that, there was a quick chat about culture and an introduction. The onsite included a review of the take-home project, a whiteboarding session with a data structures problem (specifically a linked list challenge), an API design task, and discussions about design and culture. They gave me some useful feedback. Finally, I had a short meeting with the CEO and a Data Scientist. The whole thing felt more like a conversation and collaboration, and it made me excited about the company. The whiteboarding problem was the hardest part, but it was a good problem and they supported me well, even though I needed some help to get to the final answer.
