First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Simcoe County District School Board.
Career Counsellor
This involves behavioural interviews with about 2-3 interviewers, normally done online. The interviewers are nice but keep things formal and stick to their prepared questions, which are like 'tell me about a time when...'. It's good to prepare using the STAR method for this type of interview.
- Can you share an instance from your professional background where you displayed integrity?
Teacher
It was pretty quick and painless. Lots of people were there, but they liked my volunteer work. My humor and positive discipline approach seemed to land well.
- How would you fit into our board?
HR Assistant
I interviewed for the HR Assistant role and it was a professional experience. They didn't really explain the next steps or the overall process. I didn't get the job, and the interviewer offered to connect with feedback. I said I'd like that and asked to schedule a time to chat, but then they ghosted me. It's a bit frustrating if they offer feedback but don't follow through. The interview itself was good, just a bit of a snag at the end.
- What are your plans for continued professional development?
- Can you discuss your understanding and approach to DEI initiatives?
- How have you handled customer service in previous roles?
Occassional Teacher
It was about 30 minutes long and followed a similar pattern of questions as other school boards like York. They have a set list of questions they put in the chat.
- Can you describe an effective unit plan and the specific steps you use for planning, instruction, and assessment strategies to engage students?
- Students demonstrate learning in different ways. Can you describe a specific instance where you differentiated your assessment to meet the needs of one or more students?
- Literacy is a key goal for the SCDSB. Can you provide specific examples of how you embed literacy skills into the curriculum?
