First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Silpada Designs.
Cosmetologist
I talked with the owner first, and then had a second chat with the store manager. It was a nice two-way chat, and they answered all my questions fully. They gave me plenty of time, and I didn't feel rushed. Overall, it was a good experience and gave me a good look at how the company treats its employees.
- Could you tell me about an area where you feel you need improvement?
- What's your approach to handling a customer who is upset?
Copywriter
I applied on LinkedIn and an HR rep reached out asking for my resume and writing samples via email. Then, I had a phone interview with the HR rep which was pretty simple. They had me come in for an in-person interview at their headquarters with two people from the Communications team. I spoke to each of them one-on-one. Before the interview, I was given two writing exercises to do. The interviews in person were very casual and we covered a lot of topics, from how I work to my writing background.
- What's your strategy for handling a colleague you have friction with?
Proofreader
After sending my resume and a cover letter to the HR Manager, I had an in-office interview with her that lasted about 30 minutes. Then, I was moved to another office for a 30-minute period where I completed some proofreading tasks. The company vibe was really nice and I felt at ease right away. They ended up picking someone with more experience.
- Tell me about a situation from your previous employment where you had a personal issue with your direct supervisor and explain how you dealt with it.
Customer Service Representative
I have over 20 years of experience and a BS Degree. I applied for a CS rep position. The HR director emailed me for a group interview. About 30 of us were in a conference room and they talked about the company's history. Then we had to fill out a long application and take a mental aptitude test (Thurstone test) that included math logic and verbal comprehension. We had 20 minutes for this test. The recruiter told me I wouldn't be invited back if I didn't score high enough. I passed the test and was invited for an interview. It was very informal and unprofessional. I felt I answered the questions well, but the next day I got a computer-generated rejection letter. All this for $13/hour. I was happy I didn't get the job, as it felt like a cattle call.
- Tell me about the weather?
- How beautiful is the company building?
