After I applied, an HR person hit me up to schedule an initial call. It was like 30 minutes and we talked about basic screening stuff. At the end, they said they'd set up a Skype call for the next week with the hiring manager because I wasn't local. That one was about an hour and went into more details about the job. It was cool, and they said they'd let me know about next steps in a week. But then, like, two weeks went by and I still hadn't heard anything, so I emailed them. They told me they were still thinking about it but were waiting on another internal candidate. I get it, but it was a bummer they didn't follow through. Haven't heard anything since.

After I applied online, HR reached out quickly to set up a 15-minute phone screen. About a week after that, I had a 1-hour in-person interview with the two hiring managers. They talked about my interest in the role, my career goals, and asked behavioral questions related to the job duties and qualifications. I also got to ask them lots of questions about the job and the department. HR was pretty responsive the whole time.

So I had a phone screen, and then two onsite interviews. It was pretty chill for the most part, lots of laughs. I didn't even mind not getting the job. What really bugged me was not getting a clear answer. I emailed a bunch of times after the last onsite, waiting like a month or two for an update. Then I saw on LinkedIn they'd hired someone else. A simple 'no' would've been great. Even though I like the organization, I probably won't apply again because of this.

The interviewer asked straightforward questions directly related to my ability to complete the tasks/duties listed in the job posting. No curveball questions, but they asked many "how would you react if" questions to assess how I solve problems. HR and the hiring manager were also both very collegial and laidback in their approach.
