Man, this interview process was genuinely terrible. I applied for an entry-level graphic design job and ended up going through three rounds of interviews, which were pretty ridiculous. Communication was super poor and they clearly didn't respect applicants. It started with a phone interview, then a 90-minute in-person interview with a skills test. During that in-person chat, they asked me silly stuff like 'what's your spirit animal?' instead of questions about my design experience. After waiting weeks to hear back, I emailed them for an update, and that same day, they replied asking me to come in for another interview the VERY NEXT DAY, with very little notice. This was supposed to be a 'working interview' from 8 AM to 12 PM. Thankfully, I was free and agreed to go. During the working interview, it became clear how backwards their perception of employee worth is. I was shocked they asked me about my 'relationship with my parents' and other personal stuff during a formal interview with a manager. It felt so inappropriate – like, is my value as an applicant based on my family relationships? I also spent about an hour practicing cutting vinyl, which is something I'd never have to do in the role since they have a production team for that. It was all just really strange. The next business day, they told me I didn't get the job. I sent a polite email explaining the inappropriate questions and how unfair the process was, especially the short notice for the working interview. Of course, I got no response. They clearly don't value applicants' time, have unrealistic expectations for entry-level designers, and seem to care more about parental relationships than design skills.

The interview process was long but very thorough and personable. It was one of the best interviews I've had in my career. I wish all interviews were as thorough and open as this one.

First, a phone chat to go over your background and career goals. Then, an in-house group interview with other candidates, which is pretty rare these days. They're checking for creativity and how you'd fit into their team culture and family vibe. The last interview is one-on-one with several people, and it includes a skills test for designers, production folks, and installers to gauge your abilities.

I got a call for an interview, and then there was a tour. We did introductions, and it was pretty straightforward. The whole thing was pleasant and comfortable. The store owner was humble and humorous. I was offered the job right away.
