I had a phone screening with the recruiter who asked about my salary expectations right away, before discussing my background. When I asked for their budget, there was an awkward pause before they said they didn't have that info. I continued with the screening and got a video interview. The video interview felt pretty one-sided. I asked a lot of questions about the role to show my interest, but they only asked me four questions about my current job status, not about what I could do for them or the job. The hiring manager didn't even ask the usual 'what do you know about our company?' question. It seemed like they decided within the first couple of minutes and were just trying to make it seem like they put in an effort.
