First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Sidebench.
Product Manager
The interview process was pretty straightforward and they communicated the timeline clearly, which was nice. It started with an intro call with the hiring manager, then an interview with Team member 1, followed by Team member 2. After that, there was a challenge, where the prompt was shared two days before the interview. The next step was a 4-person panel interview where we did a whiteboard team session responding to the prompt. Finally, there was a culture fit interview with HR.
- What made you decide to apply for this role at Sidebench?
Product Manager
So, after I was contacted by two recruiters, they set me up for an onsite interview just a couple of days later. I got to their coworking space in Culver City, and one of the recruiters met me there. He then introduced me to the HR person and left. The HR person seemed really nice, and we hit it off pretty quickly. They mentioned they were in urgent need of someone because their workload was increasing rapidly. We chatted for about forty minutes. The next day, the recruiter called and scheduled an interview for the end of the week with the team and potentially the CEO, who was apparently on vacation. But then, just two hours before the interview, they canceled and rescheduled it for the following week. I figured something important must have come up; that happens. So, the next week came, and the recruiter sent me the interview details. Just as I was about to head over to their office, the recruiter called again. He informed me that Sidebench was postponing their hiring process until January and thus canceling my interview. He seemed pretty upset. Apparently, this was the second or third time they had started a Product Manager hiring process, and they decided to push the hiring timeline back after bringing several qualified candidates into the process. They ended up ghosting me after I got back to them in January. It's okay if I wasn't a fit, but at least they could have been respectful to people who invested time to get to know them. The recruiters even stopped working with them because they didn't want their reputation damaged by Sidebench's unprofessional conduct, and I totally get that. They reposted the PM role in February. I reached out one last time a couple of weeks ago, and still nothing. I have no idea what they're doing, but it's incredibly unprofessional. It seems they ghosted me again after the new year.
- Could you tell me about your experience managing people?
Product Manager
I found this role online and applied. A few weeks later I got an email from them saying they were interested in having a phone interview. We scheduled a time for me and someone at the company to speak, but it was canceled the day of because they said they were busy. The same thing happened a second time, and then it was canceled again an hour before a third time with the person stating the interview was scheduled outside his office hours. I scheduled a fourth interview, and it was canceled again this time two minutes prior to the interview starting. This time no context was given to me as to why, and after confronting them about it I was told they decided not to hire my role until December.
- Apologies for the repeated cancellations, could you let me know your availability for tomorrow?
