First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at SICK.
Applications Specialist
The first stage was with HR, where we talked about my professional and academic experiences. The interviewer asked about my work history, skills, and why I was interested in the role. They also explained the job's responsibilities and challenges. The second stage was with the area managers, and we discussed my professional and academic background more deeply. I also answered questions about my technical skills. The managers asked specific questions about past experiences, like projects I'd worked on, challenges faced, and how I overcame them. They also inquired about my expectations for the position and how I could contribute to the company.
- Tell me about your professional experiences.
- Describe the projects you participated in.
- Discuss your academic background.
Software Engineer
First, there was a recruiter screening for 30 minutes. Then, a 30-minute hiring manager chat. After that, 3 rounds of panel interviews, each lasting an hour. These panels included the recruiter and manager, engineers, and product teams. They really emphasized behavioral questions. The first panel focused on behavioral questions to gauge how you handle various situations. The engineer interview covered resume points, design questions, and one LeetCode medium problem (they weren't great with the coding interview setup, using copy-paste on an IDE and screen share was clunky and sometimes wasted time; better communication from the interviewer would help). The product team interview also had behavioral questions but felt more pleasant, discussing scenarios of collaboration between product and engineering teams. Overall, it was a decent experience.
- A lot of behavioral questions.
- Some technical questions.
- One coding question.

The interview process was quite detailed and thorough, which was a good thing. It kicked off with a phone screen with a recruiter. Then, the subsequent round involved an interview with an HRBP. The third and final round was a 2-hour session with 4 senior leaders, where I met them two at a time. They asked appropriate and relevant questions, and they also took the time to highlight the great aspects of SICK. However, it was a rather lengthy process; it started in early February, and by mid-March, an offer hadn't been extended yet as there was one more step to complete.
- Can you share an instance where you faced an unfamiliar and unprepared-for situation, and describe how you managed it?
Technical Applications Engineer
So I got the job offer, which was great, but then I told my recruiter about a trip I had planned to visit my family overseas, which I hadn't been able to do for almost four years because of the pandemic. I told them I could shorten it or even postpone it and was totally open to suggestions. But instead of talking it through, they just rescinded the offer immediately, saying it was because I supposedly 'omitted or misrepresented information.' It was wild, I've never had that happen before. Super disappointing.
- We had a few interesting conversations, and the moderation was pretty reasonable.
