I initially had a call with the recruiter, which got rescheduled last minute. It ended up being over an hour long, longer than the 30 minutes I had planned for, but the recruiter was nice and informative. After that, I spoke with the hiring manager for 30 minutes. This felt too short, and the questions felt like rapid fire. A few days later, the recruiter called me back with feedback and to let me know they weren't moving forward. The hiring manager thought I wasn't confident, but I felt rushed and didn't have time to formulate my answers properly. It seemed like they wanted someone who always had all the answers, which isn't realistic.

There were 2 interviews in total. The first one was with a senior recruiter, and the second one was onsite with the CTO. The HR interview was pretty straightforward. The CTO interview was also easy, but I'm not sure why I got rejected. He asked me two questions. The first was to find pairs in an array that sum up to 4. I initially gave a brute force O(n^2) solution, and then he asked me to optimize it, so I gave an O(n) solution using hash tables. He then asked about the inner workings of hash table lookups, and I admitted I didn't know the details. He then questioned why I didn't opt for a binary search approach, to which I responded that binary search would be O(n log n), making my hash table solution more efficient. Finally, he inquired about the reasons why binary search is still used despite the existence of hash tables or hash maps, and I provided an answer.

I applied through an employee referral and HR quickly got in touch. We had a good chat, and then they set up a phone screen with the CTO. We talked about the role's expectations and challenges. The onsite interview was scheduled for the following week. I met with the VP, CTO, and three team members. Everything went well, but after two days, they told me they were going to keep looking at other candidates.

The hiring process moved quickly and was conducted respectfully. It involved a take-home assignment and some in-person whiteboarding. The whiteboarding part wasn't overly difficult and was handled professionally. Although the position didn't turn out to be a good fit for me at that time, I have only positive feedback regarding the team and how they managed the interview process.
