I found the job posting on LinkedIn and a recruiting coordinator reached out right away. I had a phone call with the person who would've been my manager. Then, I went to their headquarters for a 2-hour in-person interview. The office was really cool, open, and had a great view of the new downtown area. The recruiting coordinator was super nice and helpful. I met with about 5 people from the team for a really relaxed interview. I actually had a good time and felt like I made a good impression on the editorial team. I aced the at-home test and even did more than what was asked. It's a surprise I didn't get the job.

I applied online and heard back pretty quickly. They gave me a homework assignment where I had to make some Pinterest boards and write some creative copy. After I sent that in, they called me the next day to come to the office. I met with three people from the Content team, including my potential boss. Everyone was super nice, considerate, interesting, and friendly. I felt really at ease and thought they liked me. It seemed like I was the top choice and that I was practically hired. They said the Content Curator role was just a starting point and I could move into any area I wanted, and that I'd be a great fit for the company. I left and was told I'd hear back within a week. That same night, I got an email asking me to come back the very next day to meet the CEO. When I got there on time, the CEO came in, sat down, and just stared at me, unblinking and unmoving, the whole time. With this intense eye contact, he seemed to be trying to figure out my core character by having me do a couple of visualizations. Looking back, it felt like he was just assessing how much of a threat I might be to his authority. I went along with it and answered everything as best I could. He then explained his company's concept, using a made-up mantra about mobile devices (I later saw him repeat this pretentious quote online) and made it sound like the most revolutionary tech startup ever. I was emailed after the weekend that they chose another candidate. I asked why but haven't heard back... Everyone else I met casually during my visits was really kind and welcoming, but I'd advise you to be ready for a really intense interview.

A recruiter reached out to me for an initial chat where they asked about my experience, what I'm looking for salary-wise, and some questions about content. I think it went well. Then, I was given an at-home task to do. The day after I sent it back, I heard back for a second interview with the hiring manager. We had a good conversation, though some of the questions were a little strange/unclear. I found out the next day that they'd already hired someone, so it felt a bit like a waste of my time doing that second interview.
