They did a good job of guiding you through the process and focusing on different skill sets for each 1x1 interview. I should have put more effort into preparing myself before hand. The screening interview with the hiring manager was straightforward, easiest for me given that I can share some cool experiences I have dating back to a decade of design with tech teams. The second interview, a duet, was a good exercise and concept, I just focused too much on the problem and user story vs the interface and components of the product. The third interview was an open conversation, come prepared and don’t try to do everything on the fly. Think of a format that hits all the key details of past experiences or situations. Also ask a tons of questions based on the role and the team, they have processes and formulas that work, super interesting stuff. And for the port review, I’d say I blew it. I picked something complex to share and it didn’t quite land, my story telling could have been dialed in a little more, and I didn’t have time to create a proper deck for it.

I got referred by a hiring manager, who was very nice and supportive. The first round was a "Lifestory Interview", a casual chat about how I got into design and why I’m interested in Shopify. The recruiter was friendly and professional. The second round was a portfolio walkthrough with a designer from ON, Canada. He seemed to dislike my work from the start and asked questions already covered in my presentation. He appeared to be multitasking and not fully engaged. Another designer on the panel was supportive. I was disappointed when I asked about TikTok X Shopify's monetization and traffic strategies, and he dismissively called my question "very funny" and didn't answer it. The whole process felt quite random, unlike my 15 other interviews with companies like FLAG.

It was a pretty standard process for the startup company. First a quick chat with the recruiter, then a more profound one with the Design Team member, and finaly an on-site interview at the office. Even though I did not get the job, the whole experience was really outstanding. Everything was taken care of for me. Each and every meeting / talk I've had was very professional and allowed me to test my skills. I would really recommend everyone to take the shot at joining Shopify, as they've by far, made the best impression of how the best employer should look and behave like.
