It was a pretty standard interview process. First there was an aptitude test, then I met different people from the team, followed by a panel presentation. After that though, it went completely silent. The hiring manager actually changed halfway through, but I was always kept in the loop by the internal recruiter. Once the panel presentation went well, I was set up to talk to the new hiring manager, which I thought was maybe the last step. The call seemed to go fine, and they mentioned the recruiter would reach out after the weekend about next steps... but then nothing. I followed up with both the recruiter and the hiring manager/director, but still no response... just completely ignored. It takes a significant amount of time and effort to prepare a presentation for a panel, especially after the other 3 rounds, so to be ignored like this feels quite disrespectful. It's understandable if you decide to move forward with someone else, but at least have the professionalism to communicate that instead of ghosting someone who dedicated hours to the process.
- For 30 minutes, please show: Your client, the problems your solution addressed, the key people involved on both sides, and the challenges you managed.
- Be yourself during this formal presentation, have some fun!

A Shopify recruiter reached out to me about an SMB sales role. They thought I was a good fit, but said no jobs were available. The next day, a role opened up, but they ignored my follow-ups and I got auto-rejected when I applied. This happened again when I reapplied and reached out. It's frustrating to be ghosted by a recruiter who contacted you first, especially after they expressed interest. Job seekers put in a lot of work, and this kind of treatment damages the company's brand. I was excited about Shopify, but this experience makes me wonder if they value people. Recruiters should remember their actions impact people's lives.

Shopify's interview process is pretty involved, checking for both how well you fit and your skills. First up, a chat with the hiring manager to see if you're a good personality and cultural match. It's laid-back but they're really looking at if you vibe with Shopify's culture. Then, a role-play discovery session with two hiring managers. You get a situation and have to work through it, showing you can ask good questions and lead the conversation. Take this one seriously because it impacts your level and pay. Next is the 'Life Story' interview, which sounds simple but isn't. They want to see if you fit the culture and can handle Shopify's fast pace. This is also when they talked money with me. Finally, the last interview with the hiring manager is your chance to ask about the sales stuff, the job, and what they expect. By then, they pretty much know their mind, so use it to learn more and show you're really into it. Shopify has a high bar for hiring, and it's a tough process. Don't let online reviews fool you, it's not a walk in the park. Prep hard for everything, each part matters.
- Can you tell me about your past experience?
- What's your experience with the size of deals you've handled?
- What's your experience with the size of customers you've worked with?
