They asked me to go over my resume with them, job by job, for about 15 minutes. What was interesting is they didn't ask any questions about my experience and how it would fit the job. At the end of the call, which felt like a bad date, the CEO asked me to role play with him on the phone. Given my 3 years of phone sales experience, I think I nailed the role play. I asked about the next steps and was told I'd hear back in 24-48 hours. After a week, I emailed the recruiter to follow up, and again after two weeks. I still haven't heard back. It's a small town, especially in startups, so maybe mature your startup to professional industry standards. If you treat potential employees like this, I can't imagine what your customers go through.

I went through a few phone interviews with HR and then some higher-ups before they invited me for an in-person interview at their main office. The face-to-face chat was surprisingly chill and with the CTO, even though it was supposed to be with a product owner and HR. In the end, they didn't go with me, saying they needed someone with more mobile commerce experience. Honestly, I'm not sure if that's the real reason, so I can't really say if the interview experience was good or just okay.

It's unfortunate that ShopGate has such a poorly organized interview process, because it does seem like a cool product in a growing industry. The interviews were standard. I had two separate phone interviews with a manager and a VP, an in-office interview with them, and then a final in-office interview with the CEO. However, the communication during the entire process was absolutely abysmal. I was bounced around between three different recruiters, meetings were double-booked, I was asked to have a phone interview with a manager who I'd already done that with, etc. Nobody returns voicemails or responds to emails or questions in a timely manner. A month into this, I received an insultingly basic form email rejection through Jobvite, after I'd spent several hours in four separate interviews. No call. Afterwards, I sent an email to them pointing out all of these issues and was met with hostility and more excuses. Absolutely ridiculous and, frankly, rude.

The interview process was great. The company is fully transparent with what you can expect if you take a role at Shopgate. Both Kady and KRisti were incredibly professional, and easy to talk with.
