First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Shopbop | East Dane.
Catalog Specialist
It was a pretty fast process. They start with a phone screen to see if you're a good fit for the team, and then they set up 3 interviews. You can do them all at once or spread them out. I heard back about my final interview within 3 business days.
- How have you used the S.T.A.R method in past experiences?
- Can you share an example of when you applied one of the company's leadership principles?
- Describe a situation related to catalog management where you applied the STAR method.
Finance Manager
So this was one of the weirdest interview processes I've been through. Honestly, looking back, I probably should have seen that an offer wasn't going to happen. The HR folks I talked to were awesome. Actually, everyone was great besides the hiring manager. He avoided eye contact and just asked the same old 'tell me about a time when you...' type questions. While those questions are fine, he completely brushed off any follow-up questions I had and didn't really engage. I probably should have asked why he was ignoring my questions, but I didn't want to seem difficult. I sent in my resume and had a couple of phone screens pretty fast. After that, there were big gaps of 4 to 6 weeks where I heard nothing. I did have an on-site interview though, likely because I kept in touch with HR about once a month. They'd apologize for the lack of communication and say they'd get back to me in a few days. I hadn't heard the term 'ghosted' until after this whole thing, but it totally describes it. HR called me a couple hours after I left the on-site and let me know they weren't going to offer me the job. They didn't give any specific feedback, though.
- Can you share an instance where you faced a tight deadline?
- Describe a situation where you had to convince someone.
Warehouse Manager
I applied online and got employee referrals a few times before a recruiter finally reached out via email. First, I had a phone screen with HR, which was pretty chill and I felt good about it. About a week or two later, I had another phone interview with an Operations Manager. It seemed to go okay, but some of their answers to my questions were a bit worrying – they didn't seem keen on training new hires or keeping good employees, even managers. It felt very much like a 'my way or the highway' vibe. Despite that, I thought the interview ended positively, and I expected an in-person interview next. However, weeks later, I got an email saying they weren't interested. A former employee later told me they usually just hire 'yes-men' for this role, and I guess I'm not that type.
- Can you describe your approach to staff management?
- How do you approach general problem solving?
- Tell me about a time you had to resolve a conflict.
Software Engineer
This was a lengthy interview process that heavily focused on behavioral aspects, but also included a significant technical component. It's essential to research the "Star method" and "Amazon Leadership Principles." You should be ready to share a story illustrating each principle and handle detailed follow-up questions. Coding proficiency is a must, as you'll be required to code and will be evaluated on it.
- Could you share an instance where you utilized a specific metric to influence or convince others?
