Shoe Carnival Store Manager Interview Questions
& Process

I interviewed at the Conway, AR location and it was fantastic. Two interviews back to back. One with an assistant store manager and then the store manager. And the following week with the general manager. They were fantastic. I was impressed by the professionalism of all of them and really liked the general manager. When the general manager called me back the following week, he said the two positions they predicted to be available (at his store and one in little rock) were not available, but Russellville had an opening and he'd like to set me up for an interview there. I said sure. The store manager there is fantastic. The general manager there is TERRIBLE. He is rude. He interrupts. He doesn't listen, and he thinks he knows everything. After a first interview with the store manager, I came back four days later to an hour and a half of him truly interrogating me. It's like he didn't believe a thing I said. Literally the only thing he said to me about the position or shoe carnival, aside from interrogation, was "yeah, we sell shoes. And we put them on the shelf. And that's about it." I accepted another job from the parking lot of shoe carnival that pays less because I couldn't stand the thought of having to work with that little napoleon. I called to tell shoe carnival I was no longer interested in the position. I have to admit, had I been offered the same position in Conway, I would have taken it. That general manager and his team were great. I think it's a personnel issue In Russellville, AR.

It was a very in-depth interview because they are looking for self-starters and leaders. The overall process was good. My interview was with the GM, so I had the opportunity to address all my concerns in person with the most senior staff member at that location. I recommend coming in prepared to ask questions and give examples as to how you would address situations. After the in-person interview, I also had a phone conference interview with 5 other managers.

The interview experience wasn't great. The interviewer was kind of cold and didn't seem very personal. It felt like they were trying to get in my head by not really reacting to any of my answers or qualifications. I asked about a local store that had recently closed, and I learned their strategy is to open a bunch of stores and then just keep the best five or so.
