First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Shield Healthcare.
HR Manager
After a screening interview, I met with the CHRO. They seemed like a micromanager who wanted an administrator and not someone with new ideas. When I shared my accomplishments, the CHRO stated they don't need any of that there. I left feeling I wouldn't be considered because I'm too engaged for the CHRO, which is unfortunate for the company since the CHRO is also an owner.
- Could you start by telling me about yourself and what interests you about this position?
Area Manager
The initial phone interview was a pretty standard behavioral interview with HR. Red flags started appearing during the panel interview when they asked some illegal questions about my age. The interviewers were a sales manager and an assistant area manager. They said things like "Wow you're just a kid" and "Do you think you can manage people much older?" which were really surprising questions. It felt quite uncomfortable, and although I tried to deflect, it was definitely the least professional interview experience I've had. I wish I had recorded it, I'd have a solid discrimination case.
- You graduated in 2012, wow you are just a kid, what makes you prepared to handle this position
Document Examiner
I had a phone interview and then an in-person interview with 2 people on the same day. The questions were pretty simple and direct. Practicing general behavioral questions should be enough. What I didn't like was how the hiring manager seemed to think I was overqualified and downplayed my answers. It made me wonder why they called me if they didn't think I'd stay for at least 2 years. You should be prepared to defend your qualifications during the interview.
- If a colleague told you they were struggling to keep up with their workload and were working extra hours without pay, how would you handle it?
Software Developer
HR director was willing to come in on a Saturday to meet my busy schedule, as were the IT manager and even the CFO for subsequent interviews. Allowed me to give one month's notice to my previous longtime employer. Everyone was very friendly and allowed sufficient time for me to come up to speed. Allowed a great degree of flexibility in approaching difficult IT problems.
- Would you be open to helping out in areas outside your core responsibilities with little to no advance warning?
