Autonomy Engineer
So I got contacted by a recruiter on LinkedIn for this Autonomy Engineer role, which was one of the tougher interview processes I've been through. First, we had a quick chat where I talked about my background and they told me about the job. Then, I had a technical interview with the hiring manager. We went deep into my past experiences and projects technically. After that, I got a take-home coding assignment to check my C++ skills. The final stage was an on-site interview, which was about 4 hours long. It included a behavioral interview focused on teamwork, another behavioral interview on values, a technical and system design part, and a short presentation about a project I'd done. The behavioral parts were surprisingly challenging and I almost ran out of examples. The technical section really focused on my strengths, testing my system knowledge and coding abilities. The presentation part was pretty chill, with a conversational Q&A.
- Tell me about how you align with our company values.
Engineer
Started with a Zoom call with the recruiter, then an interview with the hiring manager. After that, there was a take-home coding challenge. The final stage was a 4-hour on-site interview. It was a really good experience overall. The on-site focused more on whether I'd fit into the team and the company culture, rather than solving random technical problems. The technical interview was more of a conversation and didn't involve live coding. I also had to give a 1-hour presentation about my past relevant work. Everyone I met was really nice, and the whole process felt very open and honest.
- Tell me about your experience with teamwork and what values are important to you.
- Can you talk about past projects you've worked on that are related to Shield?
- Let's discuss some of the engineering work you've done that's relevant to Shield.
Engineer
Started with a presentation of my work, then met with engineers. Had good conversations. Then a C-level exec came in, turned out to be the CEO. He asked questions from an article he sent beforehand. He disagreed with my answers and was pretty dismissive, even insulting my work ethic and saying dictators get things done. It was a pretty bad experience.
