First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Shearer's Foods.
Accounts Payable Associate
The interview process kicked off with a phone call from the recruiter. After that, I had three more interviews with different people from the Accounting team. After my last interview on Wednesday, they said I'd hear back by Friday. Come Monday and still no word, so I sent a polite email to show I was still interested. The recruiter replied the next day saying she'd get back to me in a day or two. Still nothing, so I followed up again with another email expressing interest, but no reply. A week later, I sent a final email thanking them for their time and to keep me in mind for future roles. No response at all. I've never been ghosted like this, especially after four interviews!
- Can you share an experience where you were close to achieving a goal, but it didn't work out?
Continuous Improvement Manager
I was contacted for a phone interview and picked a date electronically. HR then asked me to interview that same week because they were moving fast, so I made special arrangements. The interview went well, and my skills and experience seemed like a perfect match since I'd held a similar role before. They said I'd get a text in a few days to schedule a face-to-face meeting, but that never happened. I reached out again but was ghosted. Looking back, I'm kind of glad this happened; it gave me a sense of how the company operates.

Communications Manager
I had a 30 minute phone chat with someone from HR. It was easy and they were nice. At the end, they said they'd set up a Teams interview with the Director of Communications the next week and would reach out. A few days later, I emailed a thank you and said I was looking forward to it. No response. The week passed with no contact. Two weeks after the first interview, I emailed again, saying I was still interested if the role was open. No response again. A few days after that, I texted the person I interviewed with, saying my emails might not be getting through and that I respected their decision if they went another way, but since they said they were setting me up for a second interview, I wanted to follow up. They texted back quickly, apologized, and said they'd follow up. The next morning, I got the standard rejection email. I thought the whole process was really unprofessional. Telling people you're setting them up for a second interview and then ghosting them is not okay. I'm highly qualified and after this, I'm not interested in this or any other job at Shearers.

Project Engineer
I got a call from a recruiter about this role. We talked for a while about the job, then I had a phone screen with the hiring manager. After that, there were group interviews where they asked standard behavioral questions. I interviewed with 3 different groups, each about 2-4 people. Each interview felt a little short, like 30 minutes, especially with so many people asking questions, so I didn't have much time left to ask my own questions at the end.
