Product Manager
Had several phone screens and interviews that went well. Then there was a hiring project that took me about a day to finish. After I sent it in, it took them almost a month to get back to me, which was really disappointing considering all the work I put in. By the time they finally responded (after I chased them a few times with no reply), I had already taken another job.
- How would you develop solutions for the challenges of scaling a business?
Product Manager
This was for the systems product manager role. First, I had a general call with a product manager from Shapeways, who seemed senior even though they have a flat org. It was pleasant, and involved me giving an overview of myself, an overview of the role, and then I asked questions. The next step is a hiring exercise. Then, I went to the office for an hour to meet two product managers (the one from the phone interview and a backup) where I presented my solution to the hiring exercise, choosing a slideshow for my presentation. It's really important to know as much as possible about their internal process, especially for systems roles. Shapeways is a big, complex company with many operations; watching their YouTube videos, especially factory tours, is recommended. Be as prepared as possible, though you won't know everything. General PM questions also came up.
- Can you explain what Shapeways does?
- As a product manager, how do you handle saying no to product features?
Product Manager
I had an initial phone screen with a PM, then got brought in the next week. I met with two PMs for an hour to discuss my background and brainstorm solutions for their sourcing issues. After that, I had two 30-minute chats with more PMs about my management style and the role. The process concluded with a 1.5-hour meeting with a Senior VP where I had to brainstorm software ideas for sourcing and tackle a estimation problem.
- Can you estimate the total number of books ever published?
