First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Services for the UnderServed.
Marketing Communications Manager
A former supervisor recommended me for this position to one of their Directors. I went through 4 interviews. The first was an HR screener. Then I had 2 in-person interviews with the hiring manager and 2 Exec Leadership staff, plus a phoner with a consultant. I tried to be thorough and thoughtful in my responses. The hiring manager gave positive feedback and said she'd respond by a specific date. When that date passed, I followed up and found out she had gone on a long vacation. After all that, I was ghosted by both the hiring manager and HR. They never updated me on the outcome or if someone else got the job, which was really disappointing.
- Tell me about your past work experience and how it relates to this role.
Residential Aide
I attended an open house interview event with a lot of other people, over 300. It was pretty chaotic and I waited more than two hours just to talk to a recruiter. The recruiter told me to call her the next Monday, which I did. She said I'd be a good fit for the company but she had to figure out which location would be best for me. About a month later, she emailed me for a second in-person interview at the actual work location. Then I interviewed with the manager who would be my boss. I asked about pay, and they said someone else handled that. I didn't find out my salary until I was signing the hiring paperwork the day before training started. Since it was during the holidays, I accepted the offer.
- Do you have any volunteer experience, and if so, could you tell me about it?
Human Resources Assistant
I interviewed first with the Recruitment Manager, which was nice and not too formal, making me feel more comfortable. A few days later, I had a second interview with the HR Coordinator and HRIS Analyst. They asked a lot of situational questions and about my experience. I was told I'd be contacted within two weeks and assured they'd get back to everyone, but I never heard back, even after following up. Honestly, I understand no reply after the first interview, but after two interviews, I expect at least an email. Unprofessional.
- What's your approach when a client isn't responding?
Wellness Coach
I got contacted by HR after applying online and I'm currently in the onboarding process, which has been taking about 2-3 weeks. The HR folks are nice and professional, and I haven't had any issues so far. The first interview was with the program director and assistant program director, and they were pretty chill. My opinion might change later depending on how they treat me as an employee.
- Describe how you would manage a situation where someone is having a mental health crisis involving self-harm.
