The interview process was pretty simple. First, there was a technical screen. Then, a second round with two parts: a project discussion that included technical, systems, and behavioral questions. Overall, it was a straightforward process, and everyone I met was very friendly.

Presentation Behavioral

I went through 3 rounds of interviews, which included a presentation that required significant preparation and time off work. The hiring manager mentioned they wanted to fill the role quickly, and I was expecting to hear back soon. The recruiter was very communicative until after the final interview/presentation. They texted to check in on how it went, I responded positively, and then heard nothing back. It seems like this is a common experience at Sense.

Coding Technical

The interview started out fine, with the interviewer saying it was okay if the code didn't compile or if I didn't finish the problem, but it was actually someone fresh out of college interviewing me. We spent a lot of time discussing the pros and cons of the implementation throughout the problem. They gave me more details as we went along, so we ended up talking about the new details versus the old ones. I didn't quite finish, so the interviewer wrote out the solution, but it didn't even follow the problem's requirements. Interestingly, the rejection notes said I got confused with the problem, which I think was due to the poorly explained new details they added mid-problem. That was a rookie mistake; I should have asked them to document the new requirements when they were given.

  • There's a parking garage with 8 floors, each holding 20 people. You need to assign each driver to a floor and then move to the next floor once the current one is full. You'll need to create two functions: one for entering the garage and one for exiting.

The HR recruiter seemed enthusiastic. The hiring manager was kind and smart. They asked for a bunch of writing samples before the hiring manager interview, which felt like free work. There was a lot of turnover in HR, and it seemed like they might have mixed up candidates. My recruiters changed without any warning, and I saw a slightly different version of the job description on LinkedIn with another recruiter before my second interview. I never heard back and after following up a few times, I finally got a rejection.
