Apply if you do not have any self-respect! First, I had a call with HR a day after applying on LinkedIn. It was informative and she answered all my questions. Then, I had a second call with the team manager, who seemed really nice. We discussed our development habits and environments. She then invited me to do the programming challenge. After this call, I didn't hear back, which should have been a red flag. I emailed them, saying I was ready for the challenge. The next day, I got the invite and started working on it. I spent hours, including the weekend, to get it ready to ship! I asked for feedback when sending it because I was worried about ghosting, as others had mentioned. They said it would take 5 working days to reply. After a week, I sent a reminder for feedback. An HR person said they'd get back to me soon. Several days later, on a Friday night, I got a generic rejection email with no feedback. I've been rejected before, it's okay! I asked for technical feedback on the coding task, but I don't think they are respectful. This is the first time I've seen such an unprofessional hiring process and felt mistreated. So, if you're looking for something serious for your career, avoid even a 15-min call. You might do something more meaningful :) Edit: I got some feedback 11 days later. I was basically rejected for how I designed the model class and for using outdated libraries like LiveData instead of Kotlin Flows. The general architecture and UI met the brief well, with a few unnecessary extras. I mentioned I used LiveData because it's part of my current projects and it would have been more honest to show what I'm doing now.
- Tell me about how you designed the model class.
- Explain your choice to use LiveData instead of Kotlin Flows.
- Discuss your approach to using libraries that might be considered outdated.
Senior Backend Engineer
The interview process included a 30-minute recruiter call, a 30-minute technical screen, a take-home assessment, a 1-hour pair programming session that built on the technical assessment, and a 45-minute values interview. It felt like the company wasn't very invested in me as a candidate. There were often long delays without updates, but I always advanced after following up. One interviewer didn't even show up for a scheduled meeting, and there was no follow-up or apology. Another interviewer seemed unprepared. No one seemed particularly enthusiastic. If I had received an offer, I might not have accepted it due to the lack of clarity on the team and manager throughout the process. Overall, it was a pretty relaxed and straightforward interview process. The technical assessment was completed within the estimated 2 hours.
- Can you tell me about the technical projects you've been involved with?
Training Manager
The process was really engaging! It started with a quick remote interview with a recruiter via Zoom. After that, I was given a project to work on. I appreciated that they respected my time by setting a limit on how long the project should take. The final stage was a longer interview where I spoke with different staff members back-to-back, and they were all incredibly kind. The only hiccup was that the recruiter who was supposed to follow up left for a new job, which meant a long wait to hear back. I did reach out to their head recruiter after a while, and they responded very graciously. Everyone involved seems like a great person!
- Can you explain your method for evaluating the success of training initiatives?
Growth Marketing Manager
Scheduling was super easy, all done through Calendly. The process seemed simple at first, and I had a good feeling about the company. However, the second stage was a letdown. The interviewer came across as cold, distant, and confrontational. Even simple questions about the company were met with dismissive responses. After my third question, I decided to withdraw my interest because the interaction made it clear this probably wasn't the right place for me. It's a bummer because I was really drawn to the company culture, but how interviewers act is a big indicator of the work environment.
- Can you tell me about yourself and your background?
- What prompts your job search?
- Recount a difficult situation you encountered.
