First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at SEIU United Healthcare Workers - West.
Home Care Aide
It was a one day process. I'd call it a basic or normal interview. I met with someone from the DSHS home care department and they asked me questions about how and why I became an individual home care provider.
- Can you tell me how you became a health care provider?
- What motivated you to become an individual home care provider?
Organizer
It was a long online application with some questions about my beliefs and technical skills. I also had to submit videos of myself answering some questions. There were at least two video submissions and five long written questions.
- What's your strategy for persuading a low-wage worker, hesitant about paying dues, to become a union member?
Union Representative
First, you'll have a phone interview, which is pretty easy. Then, you'll go in for an in-person panel interview with several organizers. The way they conduct the interview might make you question if you really want the job.
- Can you juggle multiple demanding projects or campaigns simultaneously?
Manager
The phone interview went great, the HR person was nice and knew their stuff. Then I had 1on1 and group interviews with the analysts I would be managing. They seemed to think it was okay to miss deadlines and didn't really get how their work fit into the bigger goals. They also didn't seem to know how to prioritize or measure their work, or how to handle unexpected tasks during the day. I was really hoping for a dynamic environment like the company claims to have, but these interviews didn't give me that impression. They also didn't seem to grasp 6 Sigma or Lean, which is supposedly what they're looking for.
- Can you give me 5 adjectives that describe you?
- What's your approach when you miss deadlines?
