First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Seegrid.
Testing Engineer
The interview process here is a little unusual. It's not one-on-one and doesn't involve people outside the immediate team. Instead, you're interviewed by the whole team together. This includes both long-time and newer members, which can be a bit intimidating with so many people watching you, though not everyone might ask questions or participate depending on how the interview progresses.
- Can you tell me about a hobby you enjoy outside of work?
Implementation Engineer
I applied for the Implementation Engineer role and was initially contacted by a third-party staffing agency due to my background. I submitted my updated resume, which had very relevant experience. After weeks turned into months with no feedback, the recruiter informed me that Seegrid would not be moving forward with my application, without providing specific reasons. This was after a previous negative experience with them for an Applications Engineer role, which involved a phone screen and an on-site. The on-site started normally with intros and a tour, then included interviews with several people, including one remotely. Standard questions about background and experience were asked, but then I was unexpectedly given difficult applied math, trigonometry, and physics problems on the spot. I was also asked to make and throw a paper airplane. The interview lasted about 4 hours, and I never heard back about an offer and was ghosted after following up.
- Given a vehicle travels X feet forward and then turns using a fixed pivot, what are the angle, distance, and path direction from where it started?
- Could you construct a paper airplane?
Software Engineer
Had a recruiter call on Friday that seemed to go well. They seemed professional and engaging. I was told I'd hear back Monday but didn't until Tuesday when the recruiter emailed about updates, having not heard from the hiring manager yet. On Wednesday, the recruiter set up a technical phone screen for Monday. At the start of the screen, the interviewer seemed annoyed when I asked questions about the role, then disinterestedly asked me trivia questions with gotcha language. At the end, he said he'd email a programming problem, telling me not to spend too much time on it, though the instructions said to take my time and do it right like a real project. I sent back a working, efficient solution the next day. Three days later, I got a form rejection email. The delays and the interviewer's attitude made me feel like the decision was already made before the screen. I won't apply here again. Don't apply if you don't fit their mold or know obscure language facts.
- Regarding C++ STL map, is it a hash map that has O(1) insertion complexity?
Director
This interview process was actually fun, from the recruiter to the 7 people I met with. Everyone was really friendly and professional. It kicked off with the recruiter, then a 1-hour chat with the hiring manager. After that, I spent 4 hours doing 30-minute interviews with 6 different folks. Even though I didn't get the job, the recruiter called me personally to give me a detailed debrief.
- What's your approach to your area of expertise?
- How do you engage and work with cross-functional groups and departments?
- What are your team management and mentoring styles?
