Security Engineer Intern
So, the whole thing was two video calls online. The first one was with someone from the security engineering team, and the second was with the manager. The first interview was about networking and web security stuff, and the second one dug into more technical questions and security related to applications and operating systems.
- Can you explain the distinctions between various networking protocols, such as TCP and UDP?
- How does asymmetric encryption function?
- What steps would you take to safely investigate potential malware?
Senior Security Engineer
Found an interesting challenge site on Reddit (www.canyouhack.us). Spent a couple of days on it, then emailed them what I found when I got stuck. About a week later, I had the first of three phone tech screens. The people I spoke with were cool and seemed to be impressed. I admit a couple of my answers weren't the best, but nothing a quick review of those topics wouldn't fix. Definitely recommend having the OWASP Top 10 summary page handy during the calls.
- Can you explain how salts work and their proper usage in password hashing?
- What are the methods for protecting against XSS attacks?
Security Engineer
Applied and got invited to their penetration testing skills assessment site, then after completing that, a more comprehensive cyber range. My score was good and I was invited to a series of zoom interviews on programming, different security domain skills, and culture fit. I liked that they had skills tests upfront instead of relying on my resume going through some black box matching algorithm, and everyone I spoke to was super friendly. This sounds like a really positive place to work. When I was rejected, they gave me helpful feedback on what I could improve, which is very valuable to me as someone trying to get into this field.
- Looking at this small piece of server code (about 20 lines of JS, if I remember correctly), can you identify any potential vulnerabilities?
