First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Second Harvest of Silicon Valley.
Data Analytics Manager
The interview process was fair and in-depth. Individual contributors were involved, and they took the time to reach out. There were multiple rounds, including a group interview and an interview with leadership. It was an extremely professional and great interview experience.
- How would you approach implementing a data lake?
Production Coordinator
The first step was a chat with the direct supervisor, who asked ten general questions about my volunteer history and interest in Second Harvest. The second step was a 1-hour Zoom interview with the direct supervisor and the senior managers (evening/daytime). They mainly asked situational questions about volunteers and my experience. I followed up twice but got no response, which was really disappointing given how keen they seemed initially. They also seem to take a very long time to respond and move things forward; it took over 3 weeks just to get to these two interview rounds. There was supposed to be a final, even longer panel interview, but I never heard back.
- Can you share some details about your volunteer background?
- What makes you interested in working with Second Harvest?
- Imagine a situation where a major donor wants to try something experimental, but we have limited space. How would you manage this, particularly if they get upset when informed about the space constraints?
Systems Administrator
The interview was okay. It started with a phone screen, followed by a virtual panel interview, then a group panel interview, and finally a take-home assignment to assess skills. The take-home wasn't too difficult or too easy, just about average.
- Can you share an instance where you demonstrated leadership?
Data Analyst
They first wanted to hear about my previous data experience and how I've dealt with tough work situations. Then we discussed how to tell if a trend change is real or not, and also my thoughts on why diversity is important.
- Can you explain how to tell if a trend change is real?
- Tell me about your past data experience.
- How have you handled challenging work situations before?
