First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Second City.
Administrative Intern
So after I sent in my resume, cover letter, and did the online application thing, they called me for a phone interview. It was with the heads of the internship program and one of the current interns who's helping with hiring. The next step is an in-person interview. For that one, you meet with the internship program heads again, sometimes another hiring intern, and the person from Second City you'll be working with.

Program Coordinator
I had a 20-minute phone interview for the Youth Summer Program Coordinator role. It was a relaxed chat where they asked me questions directly about my skills as they related to the job posting. I did most of the talking, and they were happy to clarify questions if I needed it. It's a bit confusing because I thought I answered well, but I didn't get the result I expected.
- What prompted you to apply for this position?
Server
I got referred by a friend, which helped set up an interview. I then talked with service managers and the General Manager. There might be a second interview or a trial shift after that, followed by training with servers to learn the ropes and how things work.
- What is your availability?
- Can you explain how your experience is relevant?
General Manager
I went through four interviews spread across three months, even meeting the company president. It's disappointing to be ghosted after making it to the final stages. A simple email would have been better.
- What is your motivation for wanting to join this company?
