First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Sears Home Services.
HVAC Technician
They do two rounds and are very understanding and friendly, they will ask technical questions and how things work. Need to know everything on topics thoroughly. They will then ask other work related questions and ask you about yourself.
- Can you explain how an air conditioning system operates?
Strategy and Operations Manager
It started with a ~30 min call with HR that felt more like an informational chat. Then, there was a live case study with the hiring manager, which also took about 30 mins, and I had some time to ask questions. After that, I had a ~20 min behavioral interview with a VP of Finance who is on the team. Finally, I had a ~20 min chat with the hiring manager again to discuss my background.
- Can you tell me about your background and previous experience?
- Could you walk me through your resume and relevant experience?
- What are your key strengths and areas for development?
Director
This interview experience was confusing. After a brief explanation of the role and the systems it requires knowledge of, the interviewer asked about my experience with XYZ. I explained my background, and before any other questions, she stated I didn't have the proper qualifications and that there were better-suited candidates. It's puzzling why I was interviewed if my resume lacked experience with a particular system, or why my resume wasn't screened more thoroughly beforehand. I thanked her and ended the call. It felt like a waste of preparation time, and her comment about other candidates was unprofessional.
- Can you describe your current role?
- Can you tell me about your experience with XYZ?
Field Operations Manager
The interview process was typical for a large company. It started with a recruiter phone call. If that went well, the next step was a meeting with the hiring manager, who was the District Services Manager. The DSM I spoke with seemed overly focused on behavioral interview techniques, like a full psych-analysis instead of an ice breaker. They even used role-playing, which I found excessive given my previous senior-level experience. I'm not sure if it was because they were intimidated by my resume or if it was due to my ethnicity and gender.
- Can you describe a situation where a direct report was struggling to complete a task and how you managed it?
