Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Search Fund Accelerator.
Private Equity Analyst
Applied online and got contacted back about two weeks later. Had a phone interview, and after that, moved to the second part which was an Excel test. The test involved analyzing companies for acquisition potential by looking at things like industry cycle and productivity. I had 3 days to submit it. After submitting, I heard nothing back! Not even a rejection notice. It was pretty disrespectful given the effort and time it took (over 20 companies to analyze). Thinking about it now, I don't want to join a company that doesn't care about candidates, pays minimum wage for a private equity analyst, and profits off international students' desperation.

Private Equity Analyst
I applied online and then followed up a week later via email. I got a link for a pre-interview exercise, finished it, and then scheduled a phone interview. The phone interview was straightforward. Afterwards, we discussed my availability to be in the office during the Fall. I didn't get an offer because I couldn't commit to the required time in the office.
- Can you share an example of when you were entrepreneurial?
- What is your understanding of SFA?
- Could you tell me about yourself and your background?
Private Equity Analyst
They had 2 rounds of interviews. It's super helpful to know the income statement, especially EBITDA, since they use it as a multiple of the company value. They want to see that candidates really get what they do, so be sure to check out the company website and come prepared with good questions.
- Can you explain the income statement?
- What is your understanding of EBITDA?
- What research have you done on our company?
