It was a quick first chat. We talked about what I knew about the company, if I was open to relocating, and my past work experience. This call was the first step in what will be a 4-part interview process.

Initial call with an internal recruiter, followed by a call with the Co-Founder. Then an in-person interview which included a technical test. The in-person part was a bit strange. It involved a HackerRank test on defining areas using loops, administered by a very friendly Sr. Frontend developer. After that, there was a conversation with another pleasant HR person. Finally, a conversation with the CTO. It started well, but his true nature emerged. I'm not great at technical tests, and when I mentioned this, I'm almost certain I saw a smug smile on the CTO's face. He posed a tricky question about how PHP evaluates conditions. After I eventually answered it (he kept rephrasing), he began to delve into PHP's type juggling, something I wasn't really prepared for. The interview would be straightforward if you're familiar with HackerRank-style questions and have done some prep on the CS theory behind PHP. Self-taught developers might find it tougher than CS graduates.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

I applied online and heard back a few weeks later from the Director of Business Development who asked for an updated resume. I then spoke with the Director, and after that, I came in for an interview with about three people. They talked about their goals and the opportunity gaps they wanted to fill and gave me some advice on how to prep, especially regarding my data analytics background. The interviews were pretty conversational, though one customer service rep was a bit tough. My main frustration was how they kept me waiting and wasted my time. The Director didn't follow up as promised, so I emailed again about a month later. He said my background was good, but the position wasn't a fit. However, he did invite me to a conference call about a data management/reporting project. After that call, I heard nothing. I started a new job and forgot about them until they contacted me months later about the same project. I went back for another interview and gave them general info on data maintenance. I emailed them afterwards to thank them and send more info. Still, no response. Two weeks later, I checked in again, and again, silence, even though they had reached out to me first. They really don't respect applicants' time and seem to lack a strategy for scaling. I found them disorganized and would advise future applicants not to get their hopes up.

Behavioral Presentation

I met and talked with four employees who were all very nice and transparent about what they were looking for, integrating it well into the interview. I was asked to come back and prepare a presentation. They set up multiple dates which were consistently cancelled last minute, sometimes the day of. Eventually, I stopped receiving contact and got a rejection 3 weeks later out of the blue. Seemed like cool people and a good enough work environment, but I'm disappointed in their lack of consideration for others' time.
