Behavioral Technical Coding

I had a phone call that covered typical behavior interview questions. After that, there were three back-to-back 30-minute interviews focusing on technical questions. Two of these were coding interviews, and the last one dealt with bit manipulation questions. I received an offer from another company, and the HR person was really pushy and argumentative. When I declined, their response was quite rude.

The interview process at SEAKR is really long, but it's pretty relaxed. They put you through about 6-8 people in one day, and each person interviews you for about 20-30 minutes. HR always goes first and asks typical questions like your greatest strength, a time you worked in a team, something you made that improved things, and how you deal with conflict at work. After that, the interview style changes depending on the person. You'll talk to people who work in the group for the job you want. Some have set questions, and others just chat with you about their work. Make sure you know what SEAKR stands for before you go in.

I applied and a few weeks later had a phone interview. A few days after that, they set up an on-site interview for 2/21/17. The on-site was pretty chill and not too tough. I talked with a few engineers in 30-minute slots, then had lunch with the hiring manager. They said I'd get an offer call a few weeks after the interview. I waited a month, then reached out to HR. The hiring manager told me he had an offer ready but couldn't give it to me for "2 or 3 more weeks, worst case scenario" because of some contract issue. That was the last I heard from them on 3/17/17. It took six weeks to get reimbursed for my travel expenses.

Went to a Seakr on-site job fair for a HW-FPGA engineer role. It seemed to go well and the manager seemed interested. However, the compensation discussion didn't go well. They offered 25% less than my current salary for someone with 5+ years of experience, which is way below average for an FPGA engineer. I don't think they'll find good talent with such a low offer. If you're desperate, go for it, but look elsewhere first. You'd be lucky to get over 85k.

Confirmed questions2 questions
  • Can you explain your standard FPGA design process?
  • Walk me through your most recent hardware design project that involved an FPGA.
