First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at SDSU Research Foundation.
Administrative Assistant
I had a chat with the hiring manager, and they were really nice and made me feel welcome. It wasn't a scary interview at all, more like a casual conversation. We talked for about half an hour, and I got to ask them some questions at the end.
- Tell me about a challenge you encountered and how you dealt with it.
Research Assistant
It was a straightforward interview over Skype. They asked about my previous research experience and to describe a past poster presentation and its results in detail. I got an offer within a week and accepted to join the program at SDSU. The interview process was pretty smooth and easy to do. My advice is to prepare talking points about your previous research, your qualifications, and how well you fit the lab you're applying to.
- Can you describe and explain the results from the poster you presented?
- Can you describe your previous research experience?
- Could you describe a past poster presentation and its results in detail?
Student Assistant
The interview questions were pretty standard. They mostly asked about how I've handled tough situations, and I was presented with different scenarios to see what I would do. They also inquired about my public speaking abilities and if I had prior experience in that area.
- Have you had any experience utilizing our services?
- Tell me about a time you faced a challenge.
- Describe how you would handle a given situation.
Communications Coordinator
SDSU Research Foundation gave me a call for a basic phone screen. Then I went in for a 1-hour interview with the Directors of both departments I'd be working for, plus a department manager. They asked me job-specific and behavioral questions. A week later, SDSU Research Foundation called with the offer and to do a background check.
- Can you tell me about one of your weaknesses?
- If you were representing the department, how would you speak with students regarding housing?
