Help Desk Engineer
There was just one interview with two system engineers. It started out okay, but I felt like they were judging me for my lack of experience during the whole interview. Also, they never let me know if I moved on, not even after I emailed them to thank them. In my opinion, this is really unprofessional and not how things should be done.
- Can you explain what DNS is?
- What is the significance of pinging a computer?
- Could you describe trace route?
System Engineer
I applied for the System Engineer job online and first had a call with a recruiter who was really helpful and seemed to have my best interests at heart. After discussing my salary expectations, the recruiter passed the info along. Then I had a Zoom interview with the CTO to go over my experience and skills. The next Zoom interview was with the CTO and someone from IT; it went way over the scheduled time and involved more technical questions, but it wasn't too difficult. I got good feedback and the recruiter said I was a top candidate. The third interview was onsite where I got a tour and saw how they do things. I met the technical team and people from other departments. They asked more questions about AWS, Windows, and networking scenarios. After that, they said I'd hear back about an offer or status. The recruiter contacted me, and the company asked if I'd accept less than my stated salary. I declined because my salary expectations were clearly communicated and discussed during the process, especially after completing three interviews. I was really excited about the role and thought I could contribute and learn a lot, so I was disappointed they asked for less given the prior salary discussions.
- What steps would you take to fix a computer that isn't responding to pings?
- If a user complains about slow internet speed, what's your troubleshooting approach?
- How would you design an AWS application or website for better redundancy and responsiveness to users globally?
Human Resources Director
I applied online on Monday, and by Friday I got an email to schedule a phone screening for the next week. I did the phone interview the following Tuesday and then had an in-person interview on Thursday. I heard back the next Wednesday.
- Can you share some HR-related questions and draw on specific examples/experiences you've had?
- Please provide specific examples/experiences for the HR-related questions asked.
Sales
It was a really messy interview process. I didn't feel confident about it at all. There were several Zoom meetings, then a personality test that seemed kind of pseudoscientific (big red flag), and after that, a poorly designed RFP task that wasn't well thought out. It felt like a huge waste of my time.
