First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories.
Associate Project Engineer
So, first there was like this HR call, you know, to kick things off. Then, we had a 60-minute technical interview, pretty standard. The final part was the on-site, which was actually split into two sections. The first on-site bit was about 1.5 hours total, with a 30-minute presentation and then an hour of questions, which got pretty technical. After that, there was a 1-hour behavioral part. Overall, it was a good experience, and the people were nice.
- Can you explain what NAT is?
- Could you describe VLANs?
- What are firewalls and what are their different types?
Engineer
The interview was a single onsite interview with one person. Some technical questions were asked, and I didn't perform well. I wasn't ready to start immediately, which might be why I wasn't chosen. Overall, SEL seems to look for interns who are already very skilled and knowledgeable, so doing just okay on the technical questions isn't great.
- In this specific situation, what would be the phase of this circuit element?
Engineer
You'll do some independent research and then present on implementing a Protection relay of the panel's choice. After that, we'll move on to standard experience and technical questions. SEL really cares about its Values and Culture, so make sure you research the company beforehand.
- Can you tell me about your relevant project-based work?
