First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories.
Automation Engineer
We started with questions about my resume and what I know about the company's products and goals. The technical part was pretty straightforward, with basic questions about logic gates. They also asked about my specific interests in school and which projects I enjoyed the most.
- How would you design a vending machine program, specifying the inputs and outputs, and how to use those variables?
Automation Engineer
Great interview process. Started with HR, then a chat with the hiring manager. Both interviews were technical. I think I might not get the job because I struggled with some technical questions. For the interview, it's important to review the OSI layer, DNP protocol, Modbus protocol, 61850 protocol, communication handshaking, fiber optic communications, and the company values. It's a great company, and if I had performed a bit better, I might have gotten the offer. There's still a possibility since it's only been a few days.
- Could you tell me which OSI layer the 61850 Goose protocol operates on?
- Can you explain what handshaking means in the context of communications?
Automation Engineer
The interview process was 3 rounds and quite lengthy. First, there was an HR interview which included some technical questions. Then, a Technical Interview where a panel of 4 engineers asked about industry knowledge. Finally, a Presentation round with detailed technical questioning covering all aspects of the presentation.
- Can you tell me about ANSI code?
- Could you explain the difference and use cases for TCP/UDP?
- What are some common protocols and how do they work?
