& Process

It was a three part interview process. First, a phone interview. Then, an online one on one interview. The final interview was at the headquarters, which was multi person, group stylized interviews. It was a very kind, accommodating and warm atmosphere. If you're looking for a service year with Americorps, this will be your best option.

You'll be asked a lot of questions to see if you're passionate and have the right personality. You're going to work with really smart, motivated students. Schuler wants to be sure you can keep up with these bright individuals, that you'll have their best interests at heart, and that you genuinely care about what you're doing. It's a three-step process: a phone call, then a Skype interview, and finally, the organization will fly you to the Chicago area (though most sites aren't actually in Chicago). This is an AmeriCorps position, but don't let that put you off. The amount of work and responsibility you'll have is way more than what's usually offered in non-profit jobs.

The hiring process involves three main stages. First, you'll submit your transcript and resume, which is how they make sure you have relevant experiences. They're looking for people who have succeeded in environments similar to top liberal arts colleges and Ivy Leagues. Next, there's a phone interview with an AmeriCorps recruiter, focusing on your interest and experience with high school students. After that, if you impress the recruiter, you'll interview with a School Director, who would be your supervisor. This interview is crucial, and if they like you, you're very likely to get the job. The final stage is an intensive day of interviews and writing in Lake Forest, IL. They cover your travel and accommodation. This day involves meeting current Scholar Coaches, other candidates, School Directors, and possibly Jack Schuler himself. You'll have two interview rounds and complete a writing assignment and paperwork. You can expect a response within a week, usually after the weekend.

The interview was nice. There were 3 rounds: phone, skype/zoom, and in-person. The Schuler Scholar Program kept me informed the whole time. I heard back in 3 days after my last interview.
