Started with a quick chat with the recruiter, then the design team looked at my portfolio. After that, I had a take-home motion test to finish, and then presented it during a virtual panel interview. The last part was a culture-fit chat with senior leadership about long-term goals and how we'd work together as a team.

Behavioral Presentation

I interviewed at 4:00 pm on a rainy Friday the 13th. The interview lasted about an hour and twenty minutes. The first half was an orientation session. Dr. Maryhelen Hendricks read from a course description, paraphrased job requirements, and spoke in commands, with many sentences starting with 'You will...'. She answered some of my questions during this monologue. The second half was a question-and-answer session. It started well, then she became confrontational, starting with a background check question. When I mentioned I had factors to consider about the position, like reducing my hours at my current job, she responded confrontationally. When I said this hadn't been clear, she got angry. When I asked for time to consider her offer, which wasn't explicitly made, she suggested I should have interviewed earlier because she was leaving town and demanded I decide right then. I declined, and the interview ended. It was clear from an email that she was under pressure to fill the position, but it wasn't presented as a take-it-or-leave-it situation. I think she really wanted me and used arm-twisting tactics. Hectoring is a dealbreaker for me; if it happens in an interview, it's likely worse on the job. The hourly rate is high at $89, but it's a lot of work. She mentioned a writing coach and support staff are available, and people rarely leave, but this wasn't enough for me given our personal style clash.

Behavioral Technical

Had a great in-person interview, but they were really vague about what they were looking for in a candidate and the job itself. The boss is super particular. It felt like a total wild goose chase because by the end, it was obvious I wasn't qualified, even though they interviewed me for a specific skill I had that no one else did (hazardous chemical experience). He said he'd narrow down the pool in two weeks, but it's been a month with no response. The job's been open for about six months, and I know others have been ghosted, so I'm not sure they even know what they want.
