School of Rock Teacher Interview Questions
& Process

The whole process took about a month and a half. It was split into three main parts. First, a ZOOM meeting with the General Manager of the school. After that, another ZOOM meeting, this time with the Owner. Finally, I had to go to the school and do some Pro-Bono work there.

I applied on the website and then got an email to come in for an interview. It was a two-on-one interview where I had to give a guitar lesson, which I thought was pretty cool. While I was setting up my guitar, I heard them talking about "Interstate Love Song," so I decided to teach the main riff to the music director, who is apparently a beginner. It's worth mentioning that I cut my wrist on a window that morning. I stopped the bleeding, bandaged it up, and tried to hide it because I didn't want them to think I was suicidal, and then I had to rush to the interview. Being in pain made it hard to focus on the questions. The interviewers seemed genuinely interested in what I had to say, and we ended up having great conversations about handling different students and music in general. I'm not sure how long it lasted; it felt long because I was worried about needing to go to the hospital. I thought I did really well until the end when my answers got shorter and I started forgetting what I was saying. Three days later, I followed up, mentioning I had other interviews but that this was my top choice. They responded saying they normally wouldn't share this early, but understood my need. They said the interview went well with only a couple of minor issues, but they were planning to offer the position to someone else. If that candidate didn't accept, I'd be next. They mentioned our strengths were close and encouraged me not to be discouraged, but also said they didn't want me to wait around. They suggested keeping in touch and wished me luck.

It was pretty chill. They asked me to talk about my music background and what I'm good at. Then there was a sort of audition, which was basically just playing some music and jamming with the manager on a few tunes.
