First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Scheels.
Sales Associate
So there was this detailed interview with a test that included math and literacy stuff, and also a phone screening and an in person interview. They first called to do a screening, then they set up the in person interview where you're one on one with one of their managers and they asked typical interview questions focusing on integrity, problem solving, personality, people skills, and if you can listen to instructions. Then you do a test that has basic math and literacy.
- Tell me about a time you handled a difficult situation.
- How do you approach customers who are difficult?
Sales Associate
So I went through 4 interviews that were each an hour long. The first 3 managers I met with all told me that I was overqualified for the position I applied for, which was $15/hr, and they actually wanted me for a management role instead. But then the 4th interviewer told me he would never hire someone new into management, and by that point, all the other positions had already been filled. It felt like a total waste of my time and I constantly felt looked down upon because I wasn't as wealthy as the people working there.

Sales Associate
Applied online for a sales associate role, which had a really long application. Got a call back pretty quickly for a phone screening. The first interview and a written test were in person and I thought it went well. But the second interview was really bad. The interviewer told me the sales associate job wasn't open and that this interview was actually for a cashier role. When I asked about it, the interviewer wasn't straightforward. I felt deceived, especially since I have a background in sales. The interview was a rapid-fire Q&A, where I had to get questions right to move on. It wasn't a conversation at all, and the interviewer didn't even look at my application beforehand. Compared to other interviews I've had recently, this was very different. Scheels might be a good store to shop at, but their interview process was embarrassing. They want to be the best retailer, but based on how they treated me, their employees probably don't feel that way.
- What are three negative things your coworkers would say about you?
